Tool life of automatic cutting machine

Cutter wear increases with the increase of cutting time. According to the cutting experiment, the typical wear curve of normal tool wear process as shown in the figure below can be obtained. The abscissa ordinate are cutting time flank wear VB.

It can be seen the figure that the cutter wear process can be divided into three stages

1. Initial wear stage

The cutting tool wear process is fast the time is short. In the process of friction with the chip, the pressure is uneven the pressure at the peak point is very large, which causes the sharp peak to be worn quickly, makes the pressure tend to be even the wear speed is slow down.

2. Normal wear stage

The cutting tool surface of the cutting machine is initially worn, the peak point is ground flat, the pressure on the surface tends to be even, the wear amount VB of the cutting tool increases uniformly with the extension of time. The wear curve of this stage is basically linear, its slope represents the wear strength, which is an important index to compare tool performance.

3. Rapid wear stage

After the normal wear stage, the cutting edge has become blunt, the cutting force cutting temperature have increased sharply. The wear causes have changed qualitatively. The surface fatigue of the cutting tool the performance has decreased. The wear amount VB increases sharply, the tool will lose efficacy soon.

Cutting machine tool grinding standard:

If the tool is worn to a certain limit, it can be used. This wear limit is called the cutting tool blunt standard.

Cutter life:

The actual cutting time of a new tool ( regrinding tool) the beginning of use to reaching the blunt standard is called the cutter life of the cutter.
